Literary e-commerce
Independent Author Bookstore
Author bookstore with storefront, admin, and Amazon checkout handoff.

Background & Context
Independent author brands need a literary storefront that feels like a press—not a generic template—while routing purchase through proven external checkout. Building native payments and cart decrement early often adds PCI scope without matching how readers already buy (Amazon and direct purchase links).
Tekvers built the Vesper Press monorepo: NestJS 11 + MongoDB/Mongoose API with JWT + refresh and Swagger; Next.js 16 / React 19 / Tailwind 4 public storefront; and a Vite React 19 admin dashboard with TanStack Query and React Router 7. Brand system uses deep navy, gold, and cream. Domains referenced in CORS examples include vesperpress.co.uk and vesperpress.com.
Catalog covers books (formats, series, SEO fields, amazonUrl / directPurchaseUrl), categories, blog/news, moderated reader reviews, and consent-gated analytics events with consent snapshots. Admin/editor roles manage catalog content. Native Stripe cart and Mailchimp-style newsletter are not shipped (Phase 2 notes only). Stock fields exist on books; checkout does not decrement stock via an in-repo cart flow.
The Challenge
An independent author press needed a branded catalog, blog, review moderation, and staff CMS—without premature native checkout complexity that undercuts Amazon-led sales. Without a coherent literary e-commerce foundation, Independent Author Bookstore stakeholders faced fragmented tools, slow handoffs, and limited visibility—classic failure modes Tekvers designs against.
The Solution
Tekvers delivered a three-app monorepo: NestJS bookstore API, Next.js literary storefront, and Vite admin dashboard—with Amazon/external purchase CTAs, review moderation, JWT RBAC, and consent-aware analytics. Tekvers delivered a maintainable literary e-commerce system for Independent Author Bookstore using NestJS, Next.js, React, MongoDB, with phased rollout, operator workflows, and documentation suited to long-term ownership.
Our Approach
Literary brand system
Typography and color (navy / gold / cream) were designed for a press aesthetic—calm, premium, readable—so the storefront feels intentional rather than theme-default.
Pragmatic external checkout
Purchase CTAs use Amazon and direct URLs on book records, reducing PCI scope while keeping branded discovery, series navigation, and SEO fields in-house.
Admin ownership and trust signals
Editors/admins manage catalog and content via the dashboard; review moderation and consent-gated analytics give the press control over social proof and privacy-aware measurement.
